Steep Terrain

Good wine is hand crafted, in the vineyard, on the vine and in the wine cellar. That is particularly the case for the fruity core wines from Altenkirch because here too, hand work is the ultimate measure. This creates an inspiring wine full of soul.

Terrior

A wine that reflects the complex aroma of the area from which it comes, has terroir. That is not a fashion fad, it is the influence of the earth and the vine, the terrain and the microclimate – and the work in the vineyard. To express terroir in wine is mental arithmetic, because wine making is like the result of a complicated mathematical equation.

Only with a lot of hand craft in the vineyard can we influence the many different elements in nature to result in the making of a unique wine.

To be true to our terroir, we dedicate a Riesling to each of the most important types of soil.

SCHLOSSBERG

Areas (Crus)

There are many types of vineyards – however only four of our areas have the honour of a lace on our labels. Taking a look down from our top class Lorch crus Steinberg, Krone, Kapellenberg and Schlossberg is enough to understand why we make wine here. The slate slopes drop dramatically into the Rhine valley.

Riesling has taken root here and found its rightful home. No wonder that a fantastic Riesling grows here  - when we do everything right. For this we need above all manpower and intelligence: That is people who can make the right decisions at the right time. Only in this way is it possible to capture the mystique of this place into our bottles – so that in years to come it is traceable in the flavor of our top quality wine.

Burgundy

Our red wine: Our Burgundy (Spaetburgunder) needs time. Here is the moment to praise ourselves! Our 2007 wine showns its superior quality with a particularly fine Burgundy flavour. Matured in twice used small barrels it has an elegant, delicate and fruity character.

Sparkling and Secco

For our sparkling wine there is only one way to reach its target; Classical bottle fermentation. After an extensive storage on the yeast the bottles are carefully turned one after the other. This is how a hand crafted one off product is made in which the human touch is still the essential element. Our sparkling wine thanks us for this with fine, long lasting bubbles and aromatic fruitiness.
